EDP vs EDT — What's the Difference and Which Should You Buy?

The Confusion Around Perfume Types

Walk into any perfume shop and you'll see bottles labelled EDP, EDT, EDC, Parfum. Most people have no idea what these mean — and end up buying the wrong thing. Here's everything you need to know.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Parfum (Extrait de Parfum) — 20-40% concentration

The most concentrated and expensive form. Lasts 12+ hours. Usually only a few ml applied at a time. Rarely available in India at reasonable prices.

EDP (Eau de Parfum) — 15-20% concentration

The sweet spot for most fragrance lovers. Strong enough to last all day (6-10 hours), but not overwhelming. Most designer fragrances are EDP.

EDT (Eau de Toilette) — 5-15% concentration

Lighter than EDP. Lasts 4-6 hours. Usually cheaper. Better for casual, daytime wear in hot weather.

EDC (Eau de Cologne) — 2-5% concentration

Very light. Lasts 2-3 hours. Best for a quick refresh, not a full-day fragrance.

Which Should You Buy?

For most people in India, EDP is the best choice. The longevity is significantly better than EDT, and the price difference is usually worth it for the extra hours of wear.

Why Siddhata's Fragrances Are Different

Most EDPs contain 15-20% fragrance oil. At Siddhata, we craft our perfumes with 30%+ concentration — significantly higher than even most designer EDPs. This is why our fragrances last 8-12+ hours and project so powerfully, despite their affordable price.

The Bottom Line

  • Want all-day wear? → Choose EDP
  • Want something light for summer? → Choose EDT
  • Want maximum longevity? → Choose Siddhata (30%+ concentration)
